When should I see a urologist?
Talk with your doctor if you have ongoing problems with urination, repeated urinary tract infections, blood in your urine, kidney or bladder stones, or other concerns involving your urinary or reproductive health.
You may also be referred to a urologist if you have an abnormal PSA test, an enlarged prostate or another condition that needs specialized care.
What happens at a urology visit?
Your first visit will usually start with a conversation about your symptoms, health history and concerns.
Your urologist may perform a physical exam and recommend tests to find out what’s causing your symptoms. Depending on your needs, testing may include blood or urine tests, imaging or other specialized tests.
Your urologist will explain your results and talk with you about your treatment options.
Treatment for urologic conditions
Treatment depends on what’s causing your symptoms and your overall health. Depending on your condition, treatment may include lifestyle changes, medication, a minimally invasive procedure or surgery.
Your urologist will work with you to find an approach that fits your needs.
